The University of Science and Technology – Aden, in partnership with the Yemeni Consultants Center, is organizing a workshop on currency exchange rate discrepancies in Yemen: challenges and solutions.

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Faculty of Administrative and Human Sciences at the University of Science and Technology – Main Center Aden, in partnership with the Yemeni Consultants Center, organized a scientific workshop entitled: “Currency Exchange Rate Differences in Yemen: Challenges and Solutions”, in the seminar hall at the University of Science and Technology building in Aden.
The workshop witnessed broad participation from the administration of the University of Science and Technology, the administration of the Yemeni Consultants Center, a group of businessmen, a number of faculty members in the College of Administrative and Human Sciences at the University of Science and Technology, and an elite group of academics, economic experts, researchers, and those interested in financial and economic affairs.
The workshop aimed to discuss the accounting and financial challenges resulting from fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, and their impact on the financial statements of companies and institutions, and to review the best international practices in managing exchange risks in accordance with approved accounting standards. It also aimed to exchange experiences and practical solutions to address the challenges of exchange rate differences.
The workshop was opened with a speech by the President of the University of Science and Technology, delivered by the Assistant President of the University for Student Affairs, Community Centers and Branches, Dr. Munir Al-Abadi, in which he welcomed the participants to the workshop at the university, pointing out the importance of this workshop in discussing the impact of fluctuations in foreign exchange rates on companies in Yemen and finding solutions for them, hoping that the workshop’s outputs would contribute to providing constructive visions and solutions.
The Dean of the College of Administrative and Human Sciences, Dr. Bashir Mohammed Al-Hammadi, welcomed the attendees and reviewed the challenges facing companies in Yemen due to fluctuations in exchange rates, saying that the college believes in the pivotal role that academic institutions can play in reaching solutions to these challenges, stressing that the college was keen to partner with the Yemeni Consultants Center in organizing this workshop.
Following that, the head of the Yemeni Consultants Center, Certified Public Accountant Professor Muath Abdul Wahid Al-Sabri, delivered a speech in which he addressed the importance of the workshop, adding that the workshop reflects the center’s efforts to enhance understanding of the financial challenges facing companies in light of fluctuating exchange rates, and to provide practical solutions in accordance with best international practices. In his speech, he also expressed the center’s pride in partnering with the Faculty of Administrative and Human Sciences at the University of Science and Technology in organizing this workshop.
The workshop covered several key topics, including: the accounting aspects of currency exchange rate differences according to International Standards (IAS 21); the role of the central bank in stabilizing exchange rates; the role of commercial and Islamic banks in managing exchange rate risks; and the challenges faced by businesses in dealing with exchange rate differences. Several working papers were presented during the workshop, addressing these topics comprehensively.
The workshop was filled with discussions in which the attendees participated. These discussions enriched aspects of the topic at hand and resulted in a set of recommendations that focused on providing a number of practical and applicable solutions to address the accounting and financial challenges of currency exchange rate differences in Yemen.
The workshop concluded with the honoring of the participants by the Assistant President of the University for Student Affairs, Community Centers and Branches, Dr. Munir Al-Abadi, the Head of the Yemeni Consultants Center, Professor Muath Abdul Wahid Al-Sabri, and the Dean of the College of Administrative and Human Sciences, Dr. Bashir Muhammad Al-Hammadi.
The Acting President of the University of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, sent his greetings to the participants in the workshop, praising this important scientific event, explaining that his travel outside the country prevented him from attending, noting that the university is committed to supporting events that promote knowledge and transfer international expertise to the local community, which contributes to the development of the economic and financial sector in Yemen.
It is worth mentioning that this workshop was held as part of the University of Science and Technology – Aden’s commitment to holding scientific workshops, in partnership with specialized bodies, through which the university embodies its social responsibility, by linking academic knowledge with practical reality; with the aim of providing effective solutions to the financial problems facing companies, which negatively affect people’s lives and financial and economic stability in Yemen; thus enhancing the university’s role as an active partner in national development.
